About GMFMG

Purpose:

Work with a multicultural talent base to engage, open doors, expose opportunities and create a platform for a greater comfort level with the game and industry of golf.

About the Organization

Opening doors through golf.

Founded in 2008, Golf. My Future. My Game. (GMFMG) creates strategic alliances and initiatives for education and career development in the sport and business of golf. A not-for-profit, headquartered in Washington, DC, GMFMG has a network of key industry and community partners changing the market with five distinct programs to engage youth from traditionally underrepresented communities and college students. Our investment in communities of color and working relationships with the United States Golf Association (USGA), American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), and PGA of America are opening doors and creating opportunities for a diverse new generation of golf enthusiasts and industry professionals.

Mission

Founded in 2008 by Craig Kirby, Golf. My Future. My Game. is a nonprofit organization creating strategic alliance initiatives that advance education and career development throughout the sport and business of golf.

Vision

GMFMG is committed to increasing opportunity and reducing barriers that affect the popularity, profitability, and long-term sustainability of golf—while fostering greater diversity across the game and industry.

Our Focus

We help people see golf differently: as a sport, a classroom, a network, a career ecosystem, an economic platform, and a vehicle for lifelong personal development.

Our History

A conversation that became a movement.

Craig Kirby

Late in 2007, Craig Kirby traveled to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to meet with then-PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. What was scheduled as a 40-minute conversation became a four-and-a-half-hour discussion with the Commissioner and members of his executive staff about the future of golf, the importance of growth, and the need to increase diversity throughout the industry.

The conversation also focused on creating stronger connections between golf and students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. From that meeting, the idea for Golf. My Future. My Game. was conceived.

What began as a conversation became a commitment to expand access, education, career pathways, and opportunity throughout the sport and business of golf. Through persistence, collaboration, optimism, and strategic partnerships, GMFMG was born.

Kathryn Kerr Fitzsimmons

Kathryn spent twenty years in the classroom, as a reading specialist for grade K-5. Her passion for helping children prepare for the complex world around them runs deep. She grew up in a family of golfers, and developed a great respect for the game from a young age. She first learned about Golf. My Future. My Game. when she worked in Development and Alumni Relations for Craig Kirby's alma mater, Albion College. After retiring from teaching, she joined the team and now works with Directors of Golf, golf course superintendents, and members of private clubs to raise money for the foundation through sponsored rounds, in partnership with Member For A Day. In her free time, Kathryn enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, spending time with friends and family, long walks with her faithful mutt, and working on her golf game.

Programs

Pathways for every stage.

The Fundamentals of GMFMG

GMFMG has five (5) core program areas designed to introduce young people from underrepresented communities to the sport and business of golf. We engage with youth from ages 8 – 21, ultimately creating a pipeline of talent that fosters recreational, educational, and employment opportunities within the world of golf. Our programs serve as a foundation of lifelong learning and opportunities for our participants. Here is an overview of our programming:

HBCU Golf Consortium Agronomy
Creating pathways. Building connections. Expanding opportunities. The HBCU Golf Consortium is a strategic alliance created to strengthen connections between Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the golf industry. Launched in April 2023 through an alliance involving the White House Initiative on HBCUs and the U.S. golf industry, the Consortium supports efforts to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive game and business of golf.

The Consortium connects HBCU students with internships, career and job opportunities, research experiences, and agronomy-related pathways in areas such as turf management, golf-course operations, environmental stewardship, and the broader golf industry.

Participating HBCUs in the pilot included Alabama State University, Florida A&M University, Benedict College, Paul Quinn College, Bennett College, Texas Southern University, Bethune-Cookman University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Delaware State University, and Virginia State University.
01Golf, Who Knew?
Through partnerships with community-based organizations, local government agencies, community leaders, Universities, and golf courses, this program introduces golf to young golfers by helping them overcome the barriers to their engagement (lack of awareness, expense of equipment, limited access to golf courses, transportation). Through scholarships, partnerships, and direct engagement, we provide equipment and everything a young person needs to get started in the world of golf, at no cost to the students or their families.
02Learn & Earn
A national program that highlights the economic and employment opportunities in golf by providing access and exposure to stipend-paying employment that supports the development of technical and soft skills. In partnership with Caddie Now, a comprehensive caddie management and hospitality company, participants are trained in the skills of a golf caddie, opening new doors to previously unknown career opportunities.
03STEAMa
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, and Agriculture) Highlights science and environmental connections to golf while providing a “hands-on” understanding of how STEAMa benefits the sport and business of golf. Participants in STEAMa meet with and learn from golf course superintendents and groundskeepers. The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) is an active participant and a multi-year partner.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Youth from GMFMG’s Dayton, Ohio program attended the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship on September 18, 2026, during the second round of the tournament at the Ohio State University Golf Club — Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Will Ware, Dayton, Ohio Program Director, led the field trip. During the experience, Dennis Bowsher, CGCS, Superintendent, OSU Golf Club | Ohio State Athletics, led a conversation with the youth—bringing STEAMa’s science, agriculture, environmental, and golf-course career connections to life.

04Birdies 2 Eagles
This mentorship initiative introduces girls and young women to golf by helping them develop a comfort level with the game and increasing their self-esteem and commitment to a healthier lifestyle with enhanced social opportunities offered through the sport of golf. The program is expanding through Georgetown University and City Swing, an indoor golf experience owned and operated by an African American woman.
05Fauna, Flora & Fun, Nature’s Guide
A customizable educational guide developed with the youngest players in mind and filled with information about the local flora, fauna and wildlife found on golf courses. In 2019, the guides were created in partnership with the GCSAA and are currently available as a teaching tool at the Washington DC Public Library system.
